Bucshon moves to “Contender” status in NRCC Young Guns Program

Larry Bucshon Reaches ‘Contender’ Status
Indiana Republican Takes Critical Second Step in ‘Young Guns’ Program

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Republican Larry Bucshon (IN-08) has reached ‘Contender’ status as part of its Young Guns program. ‘Contender’ status is the second step in the three-level program, with Bucshon now facing a new set of benchmarks to reach ‘Young Gun’ status in his bid to win the open seat being vacated by loyal lapdog Democrat Brad Ellsworth.

Founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns program is a member-driven organization dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. By achieving ‘Contender’ status, Bucshon has already proven his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve vital fundraising goals.
“Larry Bucshon has already proven that he will be a formidable candidate by meeting the Young Guns program’s rigorous goals and is well on his way to building a winning campaign that will put this seat in the Republican column,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Larry is part of a strong and growing pool of candidates who are frustrated with the Democrat majority’s big-government ways and aren’t willing to stand by any longer. His campaign has put Congressional Democrats on notice that Americans are ready to turn the page on the failed experiment known as the Obama-Pelosi agenda.”
For over two decades Dr. Bucshon has worked to protect the lives of his patients and lead a successful medical practice. His entrance into public service is indicative of his life’s work: a desire to diagnose problems and provide practical solutions. Since 2003, Larry has served as President of Ohio Valley HeartCare (OVHC), the tri-state region’s most comprehensive cardiology and cardiovascular surgery practice. In addition to his role as President of OVHC, Bucshon serves as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Medical Director of the open heart recovery intensive care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital.

While already having achieved certain benchmarks to place him on the road to victory, Larry Bucshon now faces a new set of rigorous goals that will elevate him to the top level of the Young Guns program and help him build a competitive, effective and winning campaign.

Bucshon Campaign Reports Strong Fundraising Quarter

Larry Bucshon released his first quarter fundraising report for 2010, showing that he’s raised nearly $90,000, has more than $160,000 cash on hand, and is closing in on the $250,000 mark for total funds raised.

“We are extremely gratified with the response from residents of the Wabash Valley and southwest Indiana to our campaign’s message,” Dr. Bucshon said.  “The strong response to our message of cutting spending in Washington and to repealing the disastrous health care bill shows we are on a path to victory on May 4,” the Republican heart surgeon added.

Candidates for federal office must file periodic reports with the Federal Election Commission detailing their campaign’s fundraising efforts and expenditures.  The Bucshon report’s details include the following contributions:

            $144,633 from individuals

$   37,250 from Political Action Committees

$   65,100 from the candidate, including a loan

The Federal Election Commission website shows Bucshon — should voters chose him as the GOP nominee — has outraised the Democrat opponent $245,000 to $165,000.

Indiana Right to Life PAC Endorses Bucshon

The Indiana Right to Life Political Action Committee today announced its endorsement of Dr. Larry Bucshon in the Republican Primary for the U.S. House of Representatives in District 8. Indiana Right to Life PAC is widely regarded as the state’s most powerful pro-life voice in state political and legislative issues.

The Indiana Right to Life PAC endorsed Larry Bucshon based on his strong pro-life positions. The Chairman for the Indiana Right to Life PAC, Mike Fichter, noted that the organization released multiple endorsements in the Republican primary because of the pro-life position of several candidates and the lack of incumbency for the office being sought.

Larry Bucshon had this to say about the Right to Life endorsement: “The right to life, granted by God and enshrined in our Declaration of Independence, is fundamental and precious. I have worked to preserve life my entire career as a surgeon, and I will consider it a privilege to protect and promote the sanctity of life in the United States Congress.”
